Bitcoin Ages in Dog Years

Bitcoin is not the puppy people think it is

My family recently welcomed a puppy into the family. I have had the responsibility of taking care of this puppy over the last couple of weeks and have seen my freedom diminish as I had to make sure I was paying attention to him. I have had to make sure to take him out frequently, give him food and water, play fetch with him, take him on walks, and ultimately, give him love. While taking care of him, I realized that in a couple of months to a year, he would be much more grown up, independent, and less filled with the “puppy energy.” Through this realization, I stumbled across a perspective that the more I pondered, believed to be true.

Bitcoin ages in dog years.

There is a saying that every 1 human year is equivalent to 7 dog years. I believe this same sort of timing applies to Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is roughly 15 years old and by all accounts is seen as a “new” technology, akin to a dog being in its “puppy” stage.

However, that perspective is from using the human aging perspective. If you follow the ideology that Bitcoin ages in dog years, Bitcoin is a maturing adult and Bitcoin’s history and resumé backs up this fact.

  • Bitcoin has traded for more hours than the Fiat Stock Exchange.

  • No company reached a trillion-dollar market cap faster than Bitcoin.

  • Bitcoin ETF products offered by Wall Street have broken numerous ETF records.

  • The leader of the free world, the United States, announced they would hold a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve, and all signs point to wanting to secure as much Bitcoin as possible.

In the span of 15 short human years or the span of 4 halvings (Bitcoin’s equivalency to dog years), Bitcoin has accomplished more than most companies or currencies ever will.

In the span of 15 short human years or the span of 4 halvings, Bitcoin has gone from a fledgling idea to a monetary superpower infiltrating every level of the global and societal infrastructure.

In the span of 15 short human years or the span of 4 halvings, Bitcoin has moved from having no monetary value to reaching almost $110,000 at an all-time high mark.

In the span of 15 short human years or the span of 4 halvings, the Bitcoin Network hashrate has reached 1 Zettahash (1 sextillion hashes per second).

Bitcoin is a technology whose time has come. Bitcoin is a technology that finds itself becoming further entrenched into society day after day. Bitcoin is a technology that is rapidly aging to adulthood before our eyes. In just 4 halvings Bitcoin went from nothing more than an idea that cypherpunks discussed in online chat rooms to being an unstoppable force poised to reset the global monetary system as we know it. From an idea to nation-state adoption in 15 short human years.

Bitcoin has aged rapidly and will continue to grow ever stronger, more anti-fragile, more widely adopted, and more widely accepted in the years to come.

Bitcoin is no longer the playful puppy, it is the leader of the pack.
